Stop Changing Who You Are to Fit the Room — That’s Not Leadership

1 min

Change who you are based on who's in the room” — is terrible leadership advice.

You're told to be different things to different people.
To shift your approach completely.
It sounds strategic.

But the result?
You lose credibility.

Because people can sense when you're not being authentic.

As I shared on the Story of Software podcast, what matters most is that "no matter who I'm talking to—regardless of geography, function, seniority, or background—they feel like they're interacting with the same person."

Leadership isn't about changing who you are.
It's about adapting how you deliver your authentic self across different contexts.
That’s the last mile of leadership.
