From Omar’s desk - a recommended read for this week is: Skin in the Game: Hidden Asymmetries in Daily Life.

About the author: Nassim Nicholas Taleb is an innovative thinker best known for his work as an author. He has written seminal books on the subjects of risk, probability, and uncertainty, including "The Black Swan," "Antifragile,". Side note: "The Black Swan", is one of my favorite books of all time!

Key premise: This book examines the importance of personal accountability when taking risks in a variety of fields, including economics, science, politics, and religion. The author contends that people who have "skin in the game," or are personally invested and have something to lose, make better decisions and have more credibility than those who do not.

Why read? This book is both thought-provoking and insightful that challenges conventional thinking and encourages readers to inspect more deeply the (asymmetric) systems they participate in and the decisions they make (e.g. markets) and the consequences of their actions (particularly on others).
